On the Path

This piece was inspired from a trip with Monica to Vietnam. We took a hike in the north region of Sapa and passed through this magical valley on our way to “Love Falls”. Felt like walking in a dream. The mountains are the Himalayas of Vietnam and past the distant ridges is China.

This piece began when I was doing a presentation on intention and improvisation on the Demo Stage at the 2023, 10th Annual Plein Air Convention and Expo in Colorado. I was slotted an hour and a half and of course I talked for about 45 minutes, leaving me only 45 minutes to paint. I arrived at a successful underpainting in that time however and then completed the work back in my studio in MA.
